You've heard the buzz over people building their own AR-15 rifles. Here's how they do it. They take one of any number of varieties of forged or billet 80% lowers, put it in a jig. A jig is basically a template for how the rest of the lower should be machined away. Then they use a mere drill press and one or two other minor tools everyone has in their garage to remove the rest of the material from the lower. They they assemble the parts into a working AR-15. This is that jig. It's the first step to getting you building.
PLEASE NOTE: Tooling for this jig is optional. You'll need to select whether you would like accompanying tooling with your jig.
How the Liberty 80% Jig Works
The Liberty 80 lower Jig takes a largely vertical approach to cutting your AR-15's receiver for the lower parts kit. Using the provided drill bits, you’ll first remove a large portion of aluminum from inside the main fire control cavity by drilling various pilot holes. Quick and easy.
You’ll then use the end mill bits for light cutting and cleaning up the receiver’s walls before cutting a hole for the trigger. Lastly, reinforced drill bushings on one side plate ensure your hammer, trigger, and safety pin holes are drilled perfectly through the receiver. No measurements required for these. Then you're done! The whole process takes about 1 to 2 hours for first-timers.
It’s All in The Bits
The secret to the Liberty Jig isn’t just the plates, templates, and guides. The included bits are made from quality high-speed steel (HSS). These are commercial-grade bits that can eat through forged or billet aluminum in seconds, making fabricating multiple receivers as quick as it is simple.
